• Challenge friends or family to a course laid out around the house, take it in turns to hit your ball or have two shots each.

• As above, but the winner of the hole chooses the next hole pin placement to make the best use of their skills or “local knowledge”.

• Work out “local rules” before the start of the game (e.g. going off the edge of a carpet is out of bounds).

• Challenge another company, but let them have a copy of your “local rules” before the event and ideally a course planner, which describes the layout and any obstacles to overcome.

When you want to be really tough bring in "The STYMIE" - it is a tough, nasty rule and one of the main reasons golf swept to popularity world-wide hundreds of years ago! The stymie rule is that you cannot mark a ball on the green and if a ball is in the way, you may hit it with your ball, chip over it, curve around it or play off another ball.
